Abstract
Pendidikan Agama Kristen (PAK) memiliki sejarah panjang yang dimulai sejak masa VOC dan berlanjut hingga era kemerdekaan, dengan pengaruh signifikan dari gereja Protestan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji peran PAK sebagai alat pembebasan sosial, dengan memetakan fase historis dan paradigma teologis. Fokus utama dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengeksplorasi bagaimana yang semula terbatas pada pembentukan iman, berkembang menjadi sarana untuk mengatasi ketidakadilan sosial, kemiskinan, dan marginalisasi masyarakat. Pendekatan kualitatif digunakan dalam penelitian ini, dengan analisis dokumen dan literatur untuk mengeksplorasi perkembangan PAK dari masa kolonial hingga kontemporer. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan sejak era kemerdekaan, PAK mulai mengadopsi perspektif teologi pembebasan yang menekankan pemberdayaan sosial, pengentasan kemiskinan, dan perubahan sosial yang lebih adil. Meskipun PAK kini menjadi bagian integral dari sistem pendidikan nasional, tantangan pluralisme dan perkembangan teknologi memerlukan adaptasi lebih lanjut. Penelitian ini menyarankan pengembangan kurikulum PAK yang lebih responsif terhadap tantangan zaman dan mendalamkan pemahaman gereja sebagai agen perubahan sosial.
