Peer Review Policy

The Journal of the Institute for Biblical Aramaic Studies (JIBAS) is committed to maintaining high standards of academic integrity and rigor through a robust peer review process. Our peer review policy ensures that all submissions are evaluated fairly, transparently, and impartially based on their academic merit, originality, and contribution to the fields of theology, Christian Religious Education (CRE), biblical studies, and church history.

Double-Blind Peer Review

Jurnal Phos follows a double-blind peer review process to ensure impartiality. In this process, the identities of both authors and reviewers are concealed from each other. This method helps maintain objectivity and allows for an unbiased evaluation of the manuscript’s quality, strengths, and areas for improvement.

Review Process

Initial Submission Review
Upon submission, the editorial team conducts an initial review to ensure that the manuscript aligns with the journal’s scope, formatting requirements, and ethical standards.

Assignment of Reviewers
Manuscripts that pass the initial review are assigned to two independent reviewers who are experts in the relevant field of theology, CRE, biblical studies, or church history. These reviewers evaluate the manuscript’s quality, originality, methodology, and contribution to the respective field.

Review Criteria
Reviewers are asked to assess the manuscript based on several criteria:

Relevance and originality of the research question
Clarity and rigor of the methodology
Accuracy and depth of analysis
Contribution to the fields of theology, CRE, biblical studies, or church history
Quality of writing and presentation

Reviewer Recommendations
Reviewers will provide one of the following recommendations:

Accept as is
Minor revisions required
Major revisions required
Reject

Editorial Decision
Based on the reviewers’ feedback and recommendations, the editorial team makes a final decision. Authors are notified of the decision and provided with anonymous feedback from the reviewers to improve their work.

Revisions
If revisions are required, authors are invited to resubmit their revised manuscripts, which may be re-evaluated by the same reviewers or additional reviewers as necessary.

Timeframe

Jurnal Phos strives to complete the peer review process within 8–12 weeks, although this may vary depending on reviewer availability and the complexity of the manuscript.

Ethical Considerations

Jurnal Phos adheres to the highest ethical standards in scholarly publishing. Reviewers are required to declare any conflicts of interest and treat all manuscripts confidentially. Any form of plagiarism, data fabrication, or unethical conduct will result in rejection and potential notification to relevant institutions.
