Abstract
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis Barabas sebagai simbol populisme dalam perspektif sosiologi politik, khususnya dalam konteks pilihan massa di bawah penindasan Romawi. Fokus utama penelitian adalah memahami bagaimana dinamika sosial, tekanan politik, dan konstruksi narasi memengaruhi preferensi kolektif masyarakat. Metode yang digunakan adalah pendekatan kualitatif dengan studi kepustakaan, analisis wacana, dan pendekatan historis-kontekstual terhadap teks Injil dan literatur akademik terkait populisme serta perilaku massa. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pilihan terhadap Barabas bukan keputusan spontan, melainkan hasil konstruksi sosial yang dipengaruhi oleh emosi kolektif, manipulasi elite, dan kebutuhan akan solusi instan. Barabas berfungsi sebagai simbol populisme yang merepresentasikan aspirasi rakyat terhadap pembebasan konkret, sementara Yesus menawarkan transformasi internal yang kurang sesuai dengan ekspektasi massa. Temuan ini menegaskan bahwa pola populisme memiliki kontinuitas historis dan tetap relevan dalam memahami dinamika politik modern.
