Aims and Scope

The Journal of the Institute for Biblical Aramaic Studies (JIBAS) is a peer-reviewed, open-access journal dedicated to fostering academic research and discourse in a broad range of fields related to biblical studies and Christian scholarship. JIBAS aims to provide a scholarly platform for both general and specialized studies within theology, biblical studies, Christian education, ancient history, and linguistics, particularly those with a focus on the Aramaic language, the Bible, and Christian traditions.

Scope of the Journal

JIBAS welcomes submissions of original research articles, comprehensive reviews, and case studies that contribute to our understanding of the Bible, Christian teachings, and their historical and linguistic contexts. The journal encourages interdisciplinary and cross-disciplinary approaches in the following areas:

  • Theology and Biblical Studies: Explorations of theological themes in the Old and New Testaments, biblical exegesis, hermeneutics, Aramaic and Hebrew textual studies, and discussions of theological principles and doctrines within both historical and contemporary frameworks.

  • Christian Education: Research on Christian pedagogy, curriculum development, faith formation, instructional methodologies, and the role of Christian education in both ecclesial and societal contexts.

  • Ancient History: Studies of the ancient Near East, historical backgrounds of biblical texts, cultural and social contexts of early Christianity, and research on artifacts, inscriptions, and manuscripts that shed light on the history and beliefs of ancient communities.

  • Linguistics and Language Studies: Linguistic research focused on Biblical Aramaic, Hebrew, Greek, and other ancient languages, including philology, language evolution, and the translation and interpretation of ancient texts.

JIBAS is particularly interested in articles that engage with Aramaic texts and language, contributing to a deeper understanding of the Bible and early Christian history.

Mission

The mission of JIBAS is to advance rigorous scholarship and foster meaningful engagement with biblical texts, Christian teachings, and their historical, theological, and linguistic foundations. By publishing research that bridges theoretical and applied scholarship, JIBAS aims to support and enrich the global academic community dedicated to these fields.

Target Audience

JIBAS is designed for academics, theologians, historians, linguists, educators, clergy, and students with a vested interest in biblical studies, Christian theology, ancient history, and the linguistic traditions of early Christian texts. The journal seeks to publish research that not only contributes to scholarly knowledge but also supports the practical and pedagogical work of educators and faith leaders.
